THE CAMPAIGN
COMPETENCE
COURAGE
Competence means turning intention into measurable results. It’s about mastering council processes, building practical partnerships, and delivering on promises with clear timelines and evidence. For St Paul’s Cray that looks like mapping hotspot problems, setting targets. For instance, I aim to reduce reduce flytipping incidents by 50% in my first 18 months as Councillor, and push for a 25% increase in visible Pollice patrol hours(subject to police agreement) in my first year in office. Competence is securing funding or grants for vital infrastructure development and local needs, enforcing planning protections, and publishing quarterly progress so residents can track outcomes. It is the daily, unglamorous work, paperwork read, questions asked, and decisions followed through that makes bold promises real.
Courage means standing up for what’s right even when it’s unpopular or difficult. It’s fighting to protect greenbelt land against powerful developers, insisting on accountability from institutions, and backing tough, fair action on crime and anti‑social behaviour while also supporting youth opportunities. It’s the readiness to leave comfort for purpose, to take hard votes, and to champion long-term community interests over short-term convenience. In practice, courage is campaigning for the changes St Paul’s Cray needs and then having the backbone to see them through.
